Hand holding a tube containing a sample of faeces
Faeces samples. Hand holding one of several sample tubes from a general practice doctor's surgery containing specimens of human faeces. These stool samples may undergo general physical examinations to test their colour, odour and consistency. They may also be checked for the presence of pus, blood or parasitic organisms. Culture tests of faeces can be used to show the type of bacteria causing an intestinal infection.
