Child's skull
Child's skull. Coloured X-ray of a child's skull and shoulders. The cranium (upper centre) houses and protects the brain. The eye sockets and nasal cavity (centre) are also seen. The bones of the skull are yet to fuse together, indicated by the dark lines on the cranium. Both of the child's collar bones (clavicles, bottom left and right) have been broken, either as a result of an accident or abuse.
