LM of human bone marrow
Light micrograph of human bone marrow which fills the intertrabecular spaces of all bones. Bone marrow contains the primitive stem cells (the constituents that make up the cells) from which all blood cells (red & white) are derived. In newborn mammals the cells of the bone marrow are actively dividing, but with increasing age it becomes less active, fills with adipocytes (fat cells) & turns yellow in colour. Magnification: x44 at 35mm, x100 at 6x8cm size.
