Martian landscape, true-colour panorama
Martian landscape, true-colour panorama, obtained by the Spirit Mars Exploration Rover. This area is the circular Home Plate region, in the Columbia Hills of the Gusev Crater. McCool Hill is on the horizon at centre left. The hills are named after members of the Columbia space shuttle, which broke-up on re-entry in February 2003. Spirit landed on Mars in January 2004. The colours of the image were created by combining three camera filters designed to approximate what a human would see. The enhanced false-colour equivalent image is R360/239. This 230-degree image was obtained on 19 February 2006, on the 758th Martian day of the rover's mission.
