Annular solar eclipse, after midpoint
Annular solar eclipse. Image 8 of 14. Two minutes after the midpoint of an annular solar eclipse. The Moon (dark circle) is moving across the Sun. This process takes several hours, and may result in a partial, full or annular eclipse. In this case, the Moon is at a distant point in its orbit, and this resulted in an annular eclipse where the outer edge of the Sun formed a ring around the Moon. Photographed at 09:22 on 3 October 2005, in Tunisia, over 80 minutes after first contact. For a sequence showing the progress of the Moon across the Sun during this eclipse, see images R506/432 to R506/445.
