Star Wars surveillance satellite
Artist's impression of a surveillance and tracking satellite planned as part of the American government's Strategic Defense Initiative. To be successful, a network of such satellites would have to detect and track all objects in low Earth orbit and to discriminate between ballistic missile warheads, decoys and debris.
