Bioenergy
Bioenergy. Cotham power station (right) and electricity pylons are seen on land used for the production of wood as fuel. Here, willow (Salix sp.) is periodically harvested by cutting the trees to near ground level, which stimulates the regrowth of numerous woody stems. The harvested (coppiced) stems are chipped and burnt in special furnaces at the power station to release energy in the form of heat. Photographed in Nottinghamshire, UK.
