Robot surveillance
Robot surveillance. Robot helicopter surveying the scene of a simulated hazardous materials spillage. The robot is negotiating the site without human control, avoiding obstacles such as the flames at far left, in order to locate dummies posed as casualties, such as at lower right. The robot must also inform emergency services how the casualties may be reached safely. Photographed at the International Aerial Robotics competition at the Hazardous Materials Management and Emergency Response (HAMMER) facility, Washington, USA, in 1998. HAMMER is owned by the Department of Energy. This robot was built by a team from the Southern Polytechnic State University, Georgia, USA.
