High-definition TV studio & camera equipment
High-definition television (HDTV) cameras on a studio set at the Montreux International Symposium, 1989. The image produced by HDTV resembles that of the cinema screen, both in terms of format and resolution. HDTV images are composed of 1,125 horizontal lines (compared to the 625 lines currently used in Europe). The picture is wider, with a width to height ratio of 5/3; in current systems it is 4/3. Current TV systems throughout the world utilise different broadcast standards such as PAL, NTSC, & SECAM. A similar diversity applies to HDTV, with the creation of a world HDTV standard unlikely before the year 2000.
