Firefighter and engine
Firefighter standing by a fire engine. He is wearing protective clothing and gloves to protect him from the heat of a fire. The helmet is to protect his head from falling debris. He is carrying compressed air in tanks on his back (not seen), which supply air to his breathing apparatus (mask on face). This allows him to work in a smoke-filled atmosphere. Reflective strips (silver) help to improve his visibility in a smoke-filled environment. He also has torches (yellow) secured to his harness. At centre are valves on the fire engine, used to control the flow of water to the hoses when fighting a fire. Photographed in London, England.
