Drinking water treatment. Interior of a building for the aeration of drinking water. The water is aerated by cascade aeration, letting air enter the water as it cascades down a series of steps. These steps can be seen along the wall at upper left. The water is aerated to help clean it. Aeration allows volatile components to leave the water as the water separates into small droplets, and also to react with the air and be removed that way. The aeration also reduces bacterial growth. The air in an aeration plant must be replenished to remove contaminants from the air. Photographed in France.
