Plastic roads
Plastic Roads. Contruction workers laying part of a trunk road using large polystyrene blocks instead of the normal infill. The technique, a first in Britain, has been used in Scandinavia. It reduces the cost & time of construction & because of the light weight of the materials employed, reduces the risk of damage to existing structures. The polystyrene blocks are pieced together in Lego fashion, covered with a thick sheet of plastic, dusted with sand & capped by a normal road surface. This insures that petrol & chemical spillage does not erode the polystyrene.
