Solution mining
Solution mining. Settling tanks at a potash solution mine. Potash is a name given to a group of alkaline potassium compounds, including potassium carbonate and potassium chloride. The water in these tanks has been pumped into an underground potash mine, where it dissolved potash mineral deposits. It was then piped back to the surface and into these shallow settling tanks, where it evaporates under the heat of the sun. The solid potash (pink) left in the tanks will be collected and sold. Photographed in Utah, USA.
