Dialatometer measuring the change in gas volume
Gas volume measurement. Dilatometer device measuring the change in gas volume in a sealed system. Gas is being given off by the reaction taking place in the test tube at left. This pushes the plunger in the syringe at centre. This in turn displaces the white rod. The dilatometer measures the movement of the rod and calculates the volume change needed to produce it. The results over time are then plotted on the computer screen. This device may also be used to measure the expansion of gas when it is heated.
