Timber processing plant, Port Angeles
Timber processing plant. View of a timber processing plant with piles of logs for production of wood chips, wood pulp and paper. The logs are debarked and chipped for paper and chipboard manufacture. Wood chips for paper production are fed into digesters, where high- pressure steam and chemicals make the wood fibres separate to form pulp. The pulp is bleached to make it white and poured out into flat sheets to let water drain away. The sheets are pressed and dried to make paper, which may also be coated with clay or chalk to make it smooth. Photographed at Port Angeles, Washington, USA.
