Dead-leaf mantis
Dead-leaf mantis (order Mantodea) camouflaged on a branch. There are approximately 2,300 species of mantis in the order Mantodea. The mantis feed mainly on insects, however larger species will eat small lizards, frogs, birds, snakes and rodents. It is often very well camouflaged as a leaf to protect itself from predators. Photographed at night, in the Amazon rainforest, Ecuador.
