Giant leaf insect
Giant leaf insect (Phyllium giganteum) on a leaf. Giant leaf insects (green) are the largest species of leaf insect. Leaf insects have the appearance of a leaf as a form of camouflage, in some species the edge of the body even has the appearance of bite marks or areas which appear to be drying out. Leaf insects occur from South Asia through Southeast Asia to Australia. When leaf insects walk, they rock back and forth to mimic a real leaf being blown by the wind. Male giant leaf insects are rarely found in nature and parthenogenesis (female asexual reproduction) is common.
