Peacock butterfly
Peacock butterfly (Inachis io) resting on senecio flowers (Senecio sp.) after emerging from a cocoon. This butterfly is found throughout temperate Europe and Asia. It has striking eyespots (ocelli) that are used to scare off predators such as birds. When its wings are closed it can be camouflaged to look like a dead leaf.
