Sea slug
Sea slug, or nudibranch, (Pteraeolidia ianthina) on the seabed. This nudibranch is found throughout the tropical and subtropical Indo-West Pacific. The two horn like structures on top of its head are rhinophores (smell receptors) used to detect its prey, the hydroid. The two purple projections are touch organs. The projections from the nudibranch's body are cerata, blood- filled tubes that contain a duct of the digestive gland. In this nudibranch the cerata also contain zooxanthellae algae, which, as they photosynthesise, provide nutrients for the nudibranch. Photographed in Tulamben, Bali, Indonesia.
