Blue-spotted stingray
Blue-spotted stingray (Taeniura lymma) on the seabed. This ray, also known as the blue-spotted fantail ray, inhabits the oceans of the Indo- Pacific. It spends most of its time buried in the sand or under ledges. It breathes through spiracles (black area, centre) that are located below its eyes. Two poisonous stings near the end of its tail (not seen) are used in defence.
