Triggerfish hunting
Triggerfish (family Balistidae, blue) blowing at a sea urchin (class Echinoidea) on the seabed. The triggerfish is attempting to overturn the sea urchin and expose its vulnerable underside, which is not protected by its spines (black). A wrasse (family Labridae, centre right) is scavenging on the debris exposed by the triggerfish. The triggerfish is found in the shallow waters of tropical seas. It uses its sharp, cutting teeth to feed on crustaceans and other invertebrates. The sea urchin is a mobile bottom-feeding invertebrate that has its mouth and tube feet on its underside. Photographed in the Red Sea.
