Yellowtail anemonefish in its anemone
Yellowtail anemonefish (Amphiprion clarkii) hiding in the tentacles of its host anemone (Heteractis magnifica). This fish has a symbiotic relationship with the anemone. It is immune to the anemone's stinging tentacles, so shelters in them from predators. It emerges to feed on nearby food scraps, but is a poor swimmer and never strays far from its host. It is not clear what benefit, if any, the anemone gains from the relationship, although it is not harmed in any way either. The yellowtail anemonefish is found wherever its host anemones are found, in the tropical Indo-Pacific region. Photographed at the Fakarava Atoll, French Polynesia, in the Pacific Ocean.
