Panther chameleon feet
Panther chameleon. Close-up of a panther chameleon (Furcifer pardalis) showing its fused toes. Chameleons are didactylic, on each foot the five toes are fused into a group of two and a group of three. This gives them a tong-like appearance and enables chameleons to grip tightly onto narrow branches. Panther chameleons are indigenous to the tropical forests of Madagascar and their colouration varies with location. The different colour patterns are named after the geographical location in which they are found. Photographed in the Montagne des Francais Reserve, Madagascar.
