Madagascan chameleon on a branch
Madagascan chameleon on a branch. Chameleons (family Chamaeleonidae) vary greatly in size, from approximately 2.8 centimetres in Brookesia minima, to 68.5 centimetres in the male Furcifer oustaleti. All chameleons are didactylic, on each foot the five toes are fused into a group of two and a group of three enabling them to grip narrow branches. Most chameleons can change colour to blend into their surroundings, or for displays in mating and aggression. Photographed in the Montagne des Francais Reserve, Madagascar.
