Southern giant petrel
Southern giant petrel (Macronectes giganteus). This bird nests annually in small colonies amongst open vegetation, each breeding pair raising a single chick. The southern giant petrel feeds on cephalopods and krill, often following fishing boats and scavenging on land for dead or dying prey. It breeds in Antarctica and on sub-Antarctic islands.
