Black-browed albatross feeding its chick
Black-browed albatross (Diomedea melanophrys) regurgitating food for its chick (grey). Breeding pairs mate for life and produce a single chick in each year. Both parents will help raise the chick in a cliff top nest. The chick is raised for about four months before it is ready to leave the nest. These albatrosses are territorial, attacking other albatrosses that come too close. They are among the smallest albatrosses and have a wingspan of around 2 metres. They soar on the winds of the southern oceans and feed on krill. Photographed on Bird Island, South Georgia, southern Atlantic Ocean.
