Heron perched on rocks
Heron. A heron perched on volcanic rocks, seen in Santa Cruz Island, part of the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador. Herons are large wading birds of the family Ardeidae. They have sharp bills, long legs and soft plumage. The Galapagos are a group of 15 volcanic islands off the coast of Ecuador. Their unique flora inspired Charles Darwin to propose his theory of evolution.
