Carer with young cranes
Carer with young common cranes (Grus grus). These common cranes have imprinted onto him as their substitute father, so he must aid their transition back into the wild. An ultralight aircraft is seen behind him, which he will use to teach the birds to fly long distances. The common crane is a migratory bird that lives in wet meadows and marshland. It spends the summer in northeastern Europe and western Asia, and overwinters in north Africa. Photographed in Brittany, France, in January.
