Black headed gull
Black headed gull (Larus ridibundus) swimming on a pond. During the winter the bird's head is covered in white not black feathers. This is the most common inland gull in the UK and is often seen in large flocks. It feeds on worms, insects, fish and carrion and can grow to lengths of 35 centimetres.
