On September 17, 1946, Kuniko Sumitomo (right), the daughter of the Sumitomo family, was kidnapped on her way to school. In the first open investigation after the war, the perpetrator, Yoshio Higuchi, was arrested six days later. Kuniko was safely returned to the hands of her mother, Haruko, in Tokyo in September 1946.
