Southern right whale mother and calf
Southern right whale (Eubalaena australis) mother and calf, aerial photograph. The pair are at the surface and starting to dive. An adult female can reach 18.5 metres in length. This baleen whale inhabits the oceans in the southern regions of the southern hemisphere. It spends summer in Antarctic and sub-Antarctic waters, migrating northwards to breed in the winter. Photographed off the coast of South Africa, near the De Hoop Nature Reserve in the country's Western Cape region.
