Male lion
Male lion (Panthera leo) relaxing in undergrowth. This social carnivore spends most of its time relaxing in shady areas. Female members of a lion pride do most of the hunting, the male forcibly taking a share of the food after a kill has been made. P. leo was originally found throughout Africa and southern Asia. However, habitat destruction and hunting have restricted its distribution and it is now found in savannah and scrubland in sub-Saharan Africa and in scattered areas of India.
