Male lion
Male lion (Panthera leo) lying down. This social carnivore spends most of its time relaxing in shady areas. Female members of a lion pride do most of the hunting, the male forcibly taking a share of the food after a kill has been made. P. leo is found in savannah and scrubland in sub- Saharan Africa and in scattered areas of India. Photographed in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, in South Africa and Botswana.
