Lions feeding
Lions feeding. Young lions (Panthera leo) feeding on the carcass of a giraffe. The lionesses do almost all of a pride's hunting, catching large herbivores like giraffes, and their offspring. They hunt cooperatively, with a group of lionesses surrounding the prey whilst it is simultaneously ambushed by a single individual. The victim is dragged to the ground and strangled with a bite to the throat. A kill is shared between the whole pride, the dominant males having priority. P. leo is found in savannah and scrubland throughout sub-Saharan Africa and in scattered areas in India. Photographed in the Okavango Delta, Botswana.
