Tortoiseshell kitten
Tortoiseshell kitten (Felis catus). Tortoiseshell (or calico) coat colouration occurs in female cats which simultaneously express both the dominant Orange gene, XO and its recessive form Xo. These are present at the same location on the X chromosome. For this reason only male cats which have an extra X chromosome can be tortoiseshell.
