Manatee
Head of a manatee (Trichechus manatus) in an aquarium. This aquatic mammal inhabits rivers, estuaries and shallow coastal waters around the Caribbean Sea. It is herbivorous, feeding on sea grass and other vegetation. It is a gregarious animal, living in extended family groups. Its numbers have been reduced drastically by human encroachment, habitat destruction and hunting.
