Swimming elephant
Swimming elephant. African elephant (Loxodonta africana) using its trunk as a snorkel as it swims across a river. The African elephant enjoys bathing in and around waterholes, and will often swim quite considerable distances in order to find fresh grazing. This social herbivore inhabits the savannah and forests of sub-Saharan Africa, living in family herds ruled by an elderly matriarch. It is the largest land animal, adult males reaching up to 7000 kilograms in weight. Photographed on the Chobe River, Botswana.
