Light micrograph of butterfly wing scales on forewing of the sunset moth, Chrysiridia ripheus. Urania ripheus is a butterfly species of the family Geometroidea, it is endemic to Madagascar. The relatively large scales have fine longitudinal and transverse striations. Tropical moths often have not only pigmentation of the scales, but also physical coloration caused by interference between the ridges of the scales.
