The Struggle for the University of Tokyo: The All-Communist Party Forces the Cancellation of the All-Academic Symposium, and President Kato's Crucifix is Burned
On May 19, 1969, the University of Tokyo President Ichiro Kato proposed an all-university symposium on "The University of Tokyo Conflict and the State of the University. On May 19, 1969, a university-wide symposium on "The University of Tokyo Conflict and the State of the University", which was planned to be held by Ichiro Kato, President of the University of Tokyo, was cancelled by the students of the University of Tokyo Zenkyoto (Conference of All University Struggle for the University of Tokyo). The University of Tokyo All-Communist Party, which had set a policy of "crushing the Kato symposium," held a rally in front of the Yasuda Auditorium with about 1,500 people to "pursue President Kato," occupied the classrooms where the symposium was to be held, and even drove out the Jikyo students who had gathered there. In addition, the Jikko students who had gathered were forced to leave the campus. For this reason, the President issued a statement of "postponement" and ordered the students to leave the campus.
