On April 18, Steve Jobs, the interim chief executive officer (CEO) of Apple Computer, gave a speech at the MacWorld Expo, an exhibition that opened at Makuhari Messe in Chiba City. It was the first time for Jobs to speak in Japan. More than 6,500 people came to catch a glimpse of the charismatic figure, who has been active in the industry since the dawn of personal computers. Mr. Jobs founded Apple, a venture company, in a garage with his friends in 1976, and became an instant success in Silicon Valley with the "Macintosh" series released in 1984. With the release of the Macintosh series in 1984, he became a Silicon Valley success story.
