Fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) are said to be the ultimate eco-car that emit no exhaust gas. In Kyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture is pioneering the spread of FCVs, but it will take some time before they are widely used throughout Kyushu and Yamaguchi. The Agency for Natural Resources and Energy plans to review the requirements for the installation of hydrogen stations (STs) in February.
The first commercial hydrogen ST in Kyushu and Yamaguchi opened in October 2002 in Kokurakita-ku, Kitakyushu City. In November of last year, the prefectural government invested approximately 72 million yen to construct a mobile hydrogen ST next to the entrance to the prefectural government building in Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City.
