Cloud seeding, conceptual illustration
Cloud seeding, conceptual illustration. Clouds can be 'seeded' by ground-based missiles or by aeroplanes. This causes the clouds to release their water in the form of rain (centre) before they reach the city. Cloud seeding, used in various forms since the 1950s, is mostly used to increase precipitation in agricultural or drought-prone areas. The most common seeding materials are silver iodide and dry ice.
