Himba girls and women have different hairstyles as hairstyles indicate age and social status within the group. The Himba are a pastoral and nomadic people of northern Namibia who are closely related to the Herero people. The Himba speak OtjiHimba a variation of the Herero language. They tend herds of goats and cattle in the arid semi-desert environment, living in extended families in homesteads.
