Colesevelam hydrochloride tablet
Colesevelam hydrochloride tablet (labelled C625). This drug, sold under the brand name Welchol or Cholestagel, is an adjunct to diet and exercise to reduce elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in adults with primary hyperlipidaemia. It is a bile acid sequestrant drug. It is often prescribed as a monotherapy to patients with high cholesterol where statins are not a suitable medication, however it may be used in conjunction with statins for other patients. Most common side-effects include bloating and constipation, which can lead to low patient compliance.
