Star accompanied by giant exoplanets, VLT image
Very Large Telescope (VLT) image of sunlike star TYC 8998-760-1 (top-left) accompanied by two giant exoplanets (centre and bottom right). The star lies 300 light years away from Earth. This is the first image of more than one planet orbiting a star similar to the Sun. The image was captured using a coronograph to block the light from the TYC 8998-760-1, allowing fainter planets to be detected. Image obtained by the Spectro-Polarimetric High-contrast Exoplanet REsearch (SPHERE) instrument on the VLT., by EUROPEAN SOUTHERN OBSERVATORY/Bohn et al./SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY
