Residents' handmade torii gate built at Katagishi Inari Shrine in tsunami-devastated Kamaishi City, Iwate Prefecture.
Residents' handmade torii gates built at Katagishi Inari Shrine, which was damaged by the tsunami following the Great East Japan Earthquake. The torii gate at the time of the earthquake was washed away, but the residents built a new torii gate; in 2017, the stone torii gate was rebuilt and the damaged residents' torii gate was once dismantled, but the wooden torii gate was built again by the residents' hands, alongside the stone torii gate, in the momentum to express their wishes for reconstruction. The torii gate was rebuilt in Kamaishi City, Iwate Prefecture, and was featured in the October 8, 2022 evening edition of LENS: Hometown with Torii (torii).
