Fishing for skipjack with a single line. Men fishing with a single line, working hard from the port side to find a school of skipjack.
The skipjack pole-and-line fishing boat "Dai-san Kintoku Maru" (59.75 tons) left the port of Omaezaki, Shizuoka Prefecture, in pursuit of schools of skipjack. After entering Ajiro Port in Atami City to purchase live bait, the vessel headed at full speed for the fishing grounds off Izu-Hachijojima Island. When the watchman spotted the skipjack through his binoculars, he rushed at the school at full speed, and the powerful single-line fishing of skipjack began when seawater was sprayed vigorously from a sprinkler and live sardine bait about 4 cm long was sprinkled. The skipjack fishing season is from January to March, from Kagoshima to Kochi in early spring, to Suruga Bay around May, and to Sanriku in autumn. Crew members have only two days off a year during the Bon Festival and New Year's holidays, a three-week inspection period, and during rainy season.
