Konosu Annual Surprising Hinamatsuri Doll Festival
31 tiers of 1800 hina dolls
February 17, 2013, Konosu, Japan - Girls' Festival ornamental dolls are displayed on the red-carpeted platform in a huge pyramid shape at the lobby of Konosu city hall, north of Tokyo, on Sunday, February 17, 2013.
The dolls numbered 1,800 represent emperor, empress, attendants and musicians in the ancient Imperial court. The city of Konosu, situated some 40 km north of Tokyo, is known as "the doll town" for a number of factories manufacturing Japanese dolls. Japanese tradition calls upon families with daughters for putting out dolls for the Girls' Day on March 3 with the hopes that they grow up healthy and happily.
