Rooted in the past Kitayama cedar forest in Kyoto / 2001
Cedars reach up to the sky on a mountain in the Nakagawakitayamacho area along the Kiyotakigawa river in northwest Kyoto. The cedars were used for traditional tea rooms and shoin-style architecture. The Japanese cedar, the type growing in Kitayama, has been designated the official tree of Kyoto because of its beauty and grandeur.
