Hugo de Garis, robot brain researcher
^BHugo de Garis^b (born 1947), UK- Australian artificial intelligence researcher, with an artificial brain machine. De Garis works on the creation of robotic brains that use evolutionary processes to rapidly increase their complexity and intelligence. He graduated from Melbourne University, Australia, in 1970, before moving to the UK. After working at Cambridge University for four years, he moved to Brussels University, Belgium, where he completed his PhD on artificial life. In 1993 he became head of the Brain Builder Group at ATR Labs, Kyoto, Japan. In 2000, he moved to STARLAB in Brussels, where he continues this research. Photographed in 1999.
